Knightsbridge Area Guide

Knightsbridge came into existence as a small hamlet between the villages of Kensington and Chelsea.  In 1141 Knight’s Bridge was recorded as the meeting place between Matilda of England, the daughter of King Henry 1 and the citizens of London.

Knightbridge is now an expensive area in south west London, home to many designer shops including Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, Hermes and Gucci as well as Harvey Nichols Department Store and,  of course, Harrods. Some of the most renowned restaurants are located here making it a foody’s paradise.

The district is very leafy lying directly alongside London’s largest park, Hyde Park, and covers  the area south of Hyde Park, east of Exhibition Road and west of Sloane Street and is a strictly controlled conservation area containing 275 listed buildings.

Some of the world’s rich and famous residents, past and present,  have made Knightsbridge their home including Roman Abramovich, Kylie Minogue,  John and Cynthia Lennon, Lilly Langtry to name a few and it is therefore no surprise that Knightsbridge has some of the highest property prices in the world. In 2007, the world’s most expensive apartment at One Hyde Park sold off plan and was bought by a Qatari prince for £1000,000,000 and in 2006 a four bedroom apartment was sold for well over £25,000.000.
